A few honest lessons from the couples who’ve celebrated at Bramleigh Estate
By Emily Allan, Wedding Sales Manager at Bramleigh Estate
I’ve sat across the table from hundreds of couples in their first venue meeting. Most of them arrive with the same three things: a spreadsheet, a date they’re hoping is still free, and a quiet worry about what Mum and Dad will think.
The first questions are nearly always about price, minimum spend, capacity and whether their date is available. Those are fair questions. But after years in this job, I’ve noticed something. When couples get in touch months after their wedding, usually when their photo album arrives, price never comes up. They talk about completely different things.
So I wanted to write down what those couples tell me, in the hope it helps you choose well, whether you end up with us or somewhere else. Further down, I’ll also share the six questions I’d ask every venue on your shortlist, and a small story about Mum and Dad’s car that I think says more about a venue than any brochure can.
What matters most when you look back on your wedding day?
When I ask couples what they remember most, three things keep coming up.
The Food. Your guests remember it for years.
The Support. Having someone to lean on from the day you book.
Your Family. Whether Mum and Dad were relaxed and the people who mattered most felt looked after.
If you keep those three in mind while you’re comparing venues, the rest tends to fall into place.
“We assumed it would be out of our budget”
I hear this one a lot. Couples see photos of the foyer and the dining room and assume a venue this grand must come with a price to match, so some almost don’t enquire.
Bramleigh is every bit as grand as it looks, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. What surprises people is how we’ve set it up. We have one package, and it’s the full experience. There’s no stripped-back version and no premium tier where the best food and service are kept aside. Every couple gets the beautiful rooms, the menu our guests talk about for years, a coordinator from the day you book and a VIP host looking after your family on the night.
Where you do have room to move is your date. Midweek and off-peak dates are a lovely way to have the same day at a lower cost. If your heart is set on a Saturday in peak season, our team will take you through the minimum spend and exactly what’s included at the start, so there’s nothing unexpected down the track.
If you’d like to see everything that’s included, our wedding guide lays it all out, along with menus, pricing and real weddings from the estate.
It’s different when you’re standing in it
Almost every couple says the same thing on their tour: “It’s so much better in real life.”
It usually happens as they walk into the foyer, and again when they see the dining room. It feels bigger than the photos suggest. What surprises people most, though, is how homely it feels. Couples come expecting a reception hall and find something closer to a beautiful Hamptons-style home, light and warm and elegant. I’ve watched plenty of parents walk in with their arms folded and leave smiling.
The whole estate is yours for the day
We only host one wedding a day. I think this is one of the most underrated things to ask a venue about.
When you’re the only couple on the grounds, the day moves at your pace. Your family can linger over photos in the garden, your speeches can run a little long, and nobody is quietly checking the clock because the next party is arriving. We also don’t cap how long your ceremony runs, which many couples don’t realise is unusual until they start comparing.
Because we only take one wedding a day, each date can only go to one couple. If you already have a date in mind, it’s worth checking now.
Check if your date is available →Then come back, because I still haven’t told you how we look after your parents, and for most families that’s the part that seals it.
Two families, two traditions, one place
A lot of the couples I work with are bringing together two families with their own traditions. Some want a Western ceremony and a Chinese tea ceremony. Others are planning an Indian ceremony alongside their reception.
At Bramleigh, additional ceremonies come at no extra charge. You can hold your ceremony and reception at the one venue, so your guests stay put and your family stays together for the whole day. For many parents, that matters more than anything.
Looking after the people who matter most
From the moment you book, you’ll have a dedicated coordinator. That means one person who knows your plans, answers your messages and remembers that your grandmother needs a seat close to the aisle.
On the day itself, we have a VIP host whose job is to look after your parents, grandparents and the family members who’ve been waiting years for this.
Here’s the story I promised you. One couple told me, well after their wedding, that at the end of the night their VIP host had quietly packed up all their belongings and put them in Mum and Dad’s car. They hadn’t asked; it’s just the Bramleigh way.
That says more about what we do than anything I could write here. Everything is there for you on the day, so you can simply enjoy it.
Where your guests will stay
We don’t have accommodation on site, and I’d rather tell you that upfront. What we do have is a list of preferred hotels about ten minutes away and shuttle bus vendors you can hire to take guests there and back safely at the end of the night, so nobody has to worry about driving.
For guests who’d rather make their own way, there are plenty of ride shares and taxis in the area, so getting home is easy whatever time the night wraps up.
Please, compare us
Most couples look at three venues before they decide, and I think that’s sensible. Here are the six questions I’d ask every venue on your shortlist. Pay special attention to number four. It’s the one most couples forget, and it’s the one they tell me they wish they’d asked.
- Will we be the only wedding that day?
- Is there a time limit on our celebration?
- Do additional ceremonies cost extra?
- When does our coordinator start working with us?
- Who looks after our parents and VIP guests on the day?
- What midweek and off-peak options are there?
Ask each venue the same questions and see how the answers compare. I’m always happy for couples to hold us up against anyone. You’ll find this checklist in our wedding guide too, so you can take it along to every tour.

Our couples usually come to us with a guest list that started at 150 and somehow kept growing, because Mum and Dad have their own list and every aunty, cousin and old family friend has to be there. They’re the couples who want their ceremony and reception in one place, who fall for that light Hamptons feel the minute they walk in, and who notice the small things, like the linen, the wine list and how the room looks once the candles are lit. They’d rather do it once and do it properly, and they want every guest to go home saying it was the best wedding they’ve been to.
If that sounds like your family, I’d love to show you around.
Is your date still free?
Saturdays in peak season go first. Before you get too attached to a date, it’s worth checking whether it’s still available.
Check your date →If it’s open, I’ll send through your options, including midweek and off-peak packages, and we can arrange a private walk-through. Bring Mum and Dad along. I’d love to meet them.
